Our Bishop Grant Hagiya will be the guest speaker at this year's special service, in honor and remembrance of the reconciliation, justice and non-violence of Queen Liliu'okalani. It commemorates the anniversary of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, a 1993 public apology of the United Church of Christ to Na Kanaka Maoli at Iolani Palace, and a 1993 US apology to Native Hawaiians made in public law 103-150.
Our Hawaii District Acts of Repentance Task Force just completed its work on drafting an Apology Resolution on behalf of the Methodist Church for its role in the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani and the Hawaiian Kingdom. This resolution will be presented at our Annual Conference in June 2018, and at General Conference in 2020. Bishop Hagiya will reference the Methodist Church's role in the history of Hawaii, and our Apology Resolution response.
All Hawaii United Methodists, and Wesley members and friends, are strongly urged to attend.
